A Great Blue Heron
Maybe the last from the lakes trip as I’m itching to shoot new again. A Great Blue Heron! Last time I photographed one of these I was in Houston, shooting black and white and it was the nineties. Things certainly have changed and they keep on changing.
For this Heron I was in a canoe and my father was in the back doing the paddling. I hate to be in the front of the canoe but I wanted to photograph the swampy portion of the lake so I had surrendered control of the helm. Now in the nineties that would not have been possible as I would not have even gotten into the canoe with my father to begin with. My father and I have a better relationship now.
Not sure what the bird thought of this odd pair that paddled up to it, my father telling me the light was no good and me telling him to paddle in closer. Thankfully we both ignored each other as I got the photo at a good distance but much closer than our original sighting. Probably could have crept in a little closer but the bird grew tired of the humans bickering and flew. Awesome wing flap leading to flight.
It was good day on the water with the camera and my pop. We both want at least one more lake trip before it gets too cold this year. I’m sure it will happen.
I’ll break out the cameras and get something new for tomorrow’s feline friday update.
